The one-year Master of Cello in Music Performance and Orchestral Studies is the first advanced training course in Sicily with a specific focus on professional preparation for orchestral auditions<\/strong> and chamber music<\/strong>.
One of the most important objectives of this Master’s Course is to always look at the reality, the world of work and career opportunities. \nMullova, Ruggero Raimondi, Mario Brunello, Kathryn Stott, Giuseppe Andaloro, Yuri Bashmet,
\nKatia and Marielle Labeque, Giovanni Antonini, Ottavio Dantone, Patti Smith, Stefano Bollani, Paolo Fresu, Elisa and Antonio Albanese and with orchestras including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Moscow Soloists, Berlin Konzerthausorchester, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Il Giardino Armonico, Cappella Neapolitana, Accademia Bizantina, Budapest Festival Orchestra.<\/p>\n

For film, theatre, television and dance, he has written and performed music for Peter Greenaway, John Turturro, Bob Wilson, Carlos Saura, Marco Tullio Giordana, Alessandro Baricco, Peter Stein, Lasse Gjertsen, Anatolij Vasiliev, Karole Armitage, and Carolyn Carlson.<\/p>\n

He has performed in some of the most important halls around the world, including Alice Tully Hall, Knitting Factory, Carnegie Hall (New York), Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall (London), Salle Gaveau (Paris), Teatro alla Scala (Milan), Ravenna Festival, Opera House (Sydney), Suntory Hall (Tokyo).<\/p>\n

Since 2010, Sollima has been teaching at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, where he was awarded the title of Academician.<\/p>\n

In 2012, he founded the 100 Cellos together with Enrico Melozzi.<\/p>\n

In 2015, he created the Expo \u201csound logo\u201d in Milan and inaugurated the new museum space of Michelangelo’s
\nPiet\u00e0 Rondanini.<\/p>\n

In the field of composition, he explores different genres using ancient instruments, oriental,
\nelectric and of his own invention, playing in the Sahara Desert, underwater, or with an ice cello.<\/p>\n

In the course of 2020, due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, the concert activities of
\nGiovanni Sollima suffered a major slowdown for well-known reasons. In the summer and autumn months, however, he was able to appear for renowned festivals such as the Classiche Forme in Lecce, the MiTo Settembre Musica in Milan and Turin, the Mittelfest in Cividale del Friuli and for the Associazione Scarlatti in Naples. <\/p>\n

Over the past year, Giovanni Sollima has also intensified his activity in the field of composition, having received several commissions, including \u201cThe Jungle Book\u201d, which premiered in Kiel in autumn 2020.<\/p>\n

His discography opened in 1998 with a CD commissioned by Philip Glass for his own label Point Music, which was followed by numerous albums for Sony, Egea and Decca. Giovanni
\nSollima has revived an 18th century cellist composer, Giovanni Battista Costanzi, whose Sonatas and Symphonies for cello and bass continuo he has recorded for the Spanish label Glossa in recent years. <\/p>\n

In October 2018, at the Cello Biennale in Amsterdam, he received the very prestigious Anner Bijlsma Award.<\/p>\n

In early 2021, he recorded the six Suites by J.S. Bach, symbolising a return to the essence of music. This recording will be released in September 2021. <\/p>\n

He graduated with top honors and distinction from the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome in both Chamber Music and Cello, under the guidance of Rocco Filippini and Giovanni Sollima.
\nHe continued his studies with Antonio Meneses at the Hochschule der K\u00fcnste in Bern and with Enrico Dindo at the Pavia Cello Academy.
\nWinner of the prestigious “Giuseppe Sinopoli Prize”, he was selected by Riccardo Muti as principal cellist of the Cherubini Orchestra. He has performed, also as a soloist, in many Italian and international theaters for prestigious institutions, under the baton of conductors such as R. Muti, C. Abbado, F. Luisi, P. J\u00e4rvi, D. Gatti, C. Eschenbach, L. Shani, and Tan Dun.
\nHe has appeared as a soloist with the Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, the China Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, the MDR of Leipzig, and the MAV of Budapest, performing in major venues across Asia and Europe such as the Grand Theater of Shanghai, the Sala Santa Cecilia of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the Leipzig Arena, and the Beethoven Saal in Stuttgart, to name a few.
\nHe made his debut at the prestigious Suntory Hall in Tokyo accompanied by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, alongside renowned artists such as Yundi Li and Ryu Goto, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary celebration of the historic Japanese concert hall.
\nSelected by Maestro Gianandrea Noseda, since 2016 he has been the permanent principal cellist of the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio in Turin, and he regularly collaborates in the same role with the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan, the Camerata Salzburg, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

Born in Turin, he began his musical studies with Brancaleon at the conservatory of his hometown, graduating in cello with top honors.
\nHe later pursued advanced studies with Janigro, Brunello, and Shafran, and in 1996 won the Premier Prix de Virtuosit\u00e9 at the Geneva Conservatory under the guidance of Daniel Gronsgurin.
\nFrom 1995 and for the following five years, he served as principal cellist of the Camerata Bern, an ensemble with which he toured worldwide, performing with renowned musicians such as Andr\u00e1s Schiff, Heinz Holliger, Peter Serkin, Chumachenco, and Thomas Zehetmair, and recording for labels including Decca, Berlin Classics, and Philips.
\nIn February 2000, he was selected by Riccardo Muti to take on the role of principal cellist of the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala.
Deeply committed to the chamber music repertoire, he is the founder of the Trio Johannes.
