The Sherazade duo is a recent project carried out by Graziano Lo Presti and Nicola Antonio Staffieri featuring the clarinet and guitar. Such an enveloping sound amalgamation originated by these instruments has allowed them to explore quite a wide repertoire: from the pages of entertainment proper to the bourgeois salons of the 19th century (with composers such as Ferdinando Carulli or Matteo Barbi) to the re-proposition of some pages of operatic or folkloric appeal of the early 20th century (with sonatas by Ferdinand Rebay or Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco); from the Latin and melancholic rhythms of the tango (Astor Piazzolla) to the fluid and improvisational rhythms of jazz (John Duarte). <\/p>\n

The duo Sherazade is a project of Graziano Lo Presti and Nicola Antonio Staffieri and features the clarinet and guitar. The path of fusion and exploration between clarinet and guitar was born during working meetings in the same middle school, where Maestros Lo Presti and Staffieri teach musical instrument. Thus, among the school desks originates the idea of designing a common sound path, which unites clarinet and guitar: these instruments, which at first glance might appear very distant from each other regarding tonal, dynamic and attack characteristics, actually present a whole series of affinities and possibilities of stylistic, technical and timbral blending. The Sherazade duo starts from the latter point, through reinterpretation of the original repertoire for flute and guitar to original compositions for duo. The clear sound of the flute is replaced by the dark and ethereal timbre of the clarinet or sometimes even the harsh or deep character of the bass clarinet. The delicacy of the guitar, on the other hand, completes the harmonious picture of the performance, offering heterogeneous rhythms and melodies. Together, clarinet and guitar make an unprecedented unicum that amazes, intrigues and, finally, enamors the audience. <\/p>\n
